FAQ
1. What is a Zaman work, exactly?
A lenticular edition holding three states of one memory: the original photograph, its erasure, and its abstraction. The image you see depends on where you stand. As you move, the photograph loses its details and settles into pure colour, the way a memory does. Walk back, and it returns.
2. Is it a screen or a video?
No. It is a printed object: three images interlaced behind a surface of fine optical lenses. There is no screen, no electricity, no moving part. The movement comes from you.
3. Does it look better in person?
Yes, and we would rather say it plainly: a screen flattens the effect. The previews on this page are digital simulations of the three states and of their sequence; in the room you feel the depth, and the work responds to every step you take.
4. Are the three states past, present and future?
No. They are a photograph, its erasure and a field of colour: three ways of holding the same moment, which coexist in the object. They are not a timeline.
5. What role does light play?
The work lives on reflected light. Any normally lit room works; a directional source nearby (a window, a spotlight, a picture light) makes the states switch more sharply. Avoid a dark corner under flat overhead light only.
6. Is it a limited edition?
Yes. Each work exists in two sizes, and each size is its own numbered edition of 100, signed, with a certificate of authenticity. Once an edition is complete, the work is never reprinted.
7. Can I return it?
All sales are final: each work is a numbered limited edition. If you hesitate on size, placement or light, write to hello@zaman.gallery before acquiring, we will help you decide. If a work arrives damaged, it is replaced or refunded in full.
